Week 40 of 2026: Returning to Your Calling

Scripture:

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
— Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV)

Reflection:

Sometimes God brings us full circle.

Life can take us through disappointment, failure, loss, unexpected circumstances, or seasons that seem to pull us away from what God has placed on our hearts. We may wonder, “Did I miss God’s purpose for my life?”

But a detour is not necessarily the end of the journey.

God can use every season to teach us, humble us, strengthen us, and prepare us. When He brings us back, we may return to the same place, but we are not the same person. We return with greater wisdom, deeper faith, and a better understanding of His grace.

Our failures do not cancel God’s ability to use us. Peter denied Jesus three times, yet Christ restored him and continued to use his life for God’s kingdom.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
— Romans 8:28 (KJV)

Our calling is ultimately about following Jesus. We may not understand every step, but we can trust the One who directs our path.

Real-Life Story: Charles Colson

Charles Colson was once a powerful political figure who served as special counsel to President Richard Nixon. His involvement in the Watergate scandal eventually led to a prison sentence.

While facing the consequences of his actions, Colson became a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

After leaving prison, instead of simply rebuilding his former career, he began ministering to prisoners and their families. He founded Prison Fellowship, which grew into an international ministry.

His prison experience became part of what equipped him to understand and serve others.

His story reminds us that God can redeem our experiences and give them new purpose. Our past mistakes may remain part of our testimony, but they do not have to determine our future.

Paul wrote:

“Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble.”
— 2 Corinthians 1:4 (KJV)

What God has brought you through may become something He uses to help someone else.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus,

Thank You for Your grace and faithfulness. Help me to trust You even when I do not understand the path ahead.

If You are calling me back to something I have left behind, give me courage to obey. If You are leading me in a new direction, give me faith to follow.

Teach me from my past without allowing me to be imprisoned by it. Use my experiences, failures, and lessons for Your glory.

Order my steps, keep my eyes on Jesus, and help me faithfully follow Your calling.

In the precious name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Action Step:

Ask yourself today:

“Is there something God once placed on my heart that I have stepped away from?”

Then ask:

“What has God taught me through my journey that can now help me serve Him more faithfully?”

Pray about it and take one small step of obedience.

Remember:

Returning is not always going backward. Sometimes God brings us full circle because He has prepared us to move forward in a new way.

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD.”
— Psalm 37:23 (KJV)

Trust Him. Follow Jesus. Answer His call.
