Week 39 of 2026: Grace for the Climb

Scripture:
“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9 (KJV)

Reflection:
The journey of life is filled with steep climbs and gentle slopes. There are seasons when we feel strong and confident, and there are other seasons when we feel tired, discouraged, and unable to take another step. Yet through every season, God’s grace remains sufficient.

The Christian life is not about how strong we are, but about how completely we depend upon Jesus Christ. When our strength is gone, His strength is still available. When we cannot see the way ahead, Jesus remains our Way. When we stumble, He is there to lift us up.

Paul prayed three times that his thorn in the flesh would be removed. Instead of removing it, the Lord gave him a greater assurance: “My grace is sufficient for thee.” Paul learned that God’s grace can sustain us even when our circumstances do not change.

Sometimes God changes our circumstances. At other times, He changes us in the midst of those circumstances.

Jesus never promised that the road would always be easy, but He promised to be with us. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6, KJV).

The climb may be difficult, but we never climb alone. Jesus walks with us every step of the way.

Real Life Story:
Fanny Crosby, the famous Christian hymn writer, became blind as an infant and lived with blindness throughout her life. Yet her blindness did not prevent God from using her life in a remarkable way.

Fanny could not see the world with her physical eyes, but she developed a deep vision of faith. She became a teacher, poet, and one of the most prolific hymn writers in Christian history, writing thousands of hymns and gospel songs.

Instead of allowing her limitation to become the focus of her life, she placed her trust in God and used the gifts He had given her. Her life became a testimony that our weaknesses do not limit God’s ability to work through us.

One of her best-known hymns begins with the words, “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!” Her confidence was not in her physical ability or circumstances. Her confidence was in Jesus Christ.

She also wrote “To God Be the Glory,” pointing believers back to the One who deserves all the praise.

Fanny Crosby’s life reminds us that God’s grace does not always remove the mountain. Sometimes His grace gives us the strength to climb it.

There may be difficulties in our own lives that we have repeatedly asked God to remove. There may be unanswered prayers, disappointments, limitations, or burdens that remain longer than we expected.

But the words God spoke to Paul still encourage us today:

“My grace is sufficient for thee.”

When you are weak, Jesus is your strength.
When you are discouraged, Jesus is your hope.
When you cannot see the way, Jesus is your guide.
And when the climb becomes difficult, Jesus gives you grace for the next step.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your amazing grace. When I am weak, help me remember that Your strength is made perfect in weakness. When the road becomes difficult, help me keep my eyes upon You.

Teach me to depend not upon my own strength, but upon You. Give me grace for every burden, courage for every challenge, and faith for every step.

Help me remember that I am never alone because You are with me. Use my life, including my weaknesses and limitations, for Your glory. May everything I do point others to Jesus Christ.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Action Step:
Whenever you feel overwhelmed this week, pause and pray:

“Lord Jesus, Your grace is sufficient for me.”

Don’t focus only on the size of the mountain. Look to Jesus, the One who is with you on the mountain.

You don’t have to climb the whole mountain today. Take the next step with Jesus.

His grace is enough for today’s climb.
