Scripture
“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?”
— Isaiah 43:18–19 (KJV)
Reflection
Letting go is not always easy. We often hold on to past failures, painful memories, old habits, fears, possessions, or our own plans. But sometimes God asks us to release what is behind so we can move forward with Him.
God said, “Behold, I will do a new thing.” We must not allow yesterday to prevent us from seeing what God is doing today.
Most importantly, we must be willing to let go of sin. Sin is always sin—it should never be excused, justified, or renamed. God’s Word says:
“He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.”
— Proverbs 28:13 (KJV)
Grace does not give us permission to continue in sin. Grace leads us to repentance and a changed life through Jesus Christ.
Real Life Story: Harriet Tubman
Harriet Tubman was born into slavery in Maryland around 1822. After years of hardship, she escaped slavery in 1849 and reached freedom in Pennsylvania.
But Harriet did not simply enjoy her own freedom. She courageously returned to the South many times, risking her life to help other enslaved people escape through the Underground Railroad.
She had to leave behind the familiar and step into an uncertain future. Her faith in God gave her courage to move forward despite danger.
Her life reminds us that sometimes freedom begins when we have the courage to let go.
Jesus also calls us to leave the old life and follow Him.
“If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”
— Matthew 16:24 (KJV)
The disciples left their nets and followed Jesus. We too are called to surrender our will, forsake sin, and follow Christ.
Jesus Himself prayed in Gethsemane:
“Nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.”
— Matthew 26:39 (KJV)
He surrendered Himself to the Father’s will, went to the cross, died for our sins, and rose again.
Because of Jesus, our past does not have to control our future.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
Let go of sin. Let go of bitterness. Let go of fear. Let go of what God is asking you to surrender. And hold on to Jesus.
Prayer
Father, give me the courage to let go of everything that keeps me from following You. Help me to confess and forsake every sin, surrender my fears and plans to You, and trust Your perfect will. Thank You for making me a new creature through Jesus Christ.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Action Step
Identify one thing you need to release this week—a sin, regret, bitterness, fear, possession, or personal plan.
Take one practical step toward surrendering it to God and pray:
“Lord Jesus, I release this into Your hands. Give me the courage to let go and the faith to follow You.”
“Behold, I will do a new thing.” — Isaiah 43:19 (KJV)
