Week 29 of 2026: Embracing New Assignments

Scripture:

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.”
— Colossians 3:23–24 (KJV)

Reflection

Life is filled with new assignments. Some come with excitement, while others arrive unexpectedly through changes in our careers, families, ministries, or personal circumstances. Often, we question whether we are capable or qualified. Yet God has never called His people based solely on their abilities; He calls them according to His purpose and promises to equip them along the way.

Throughout Scripture, God entrusted ordinary people with extraordinary assignments. Moses was called to lead Israel despite his fears. Esther was placed in the palace “for such a time as this.” Nehemiah rebuilt Jerusalem’s walls in the face of fierce opposition. The disciples left everything familiar to follow Christ and spread the Gospel to the world. Each assignment required faith, obedience, and dependence on God.

The Apostle Paul reminds us that whatever we do, we are ultimately serving Christ—not merely people. Whether our work is recognized or unnoticed, every task done with sincerity and love becomes an act of worship before God. Success in God’s eyes is measured not by titles or achievements but by faithfulness.

When we dedicate our daily responsibilities to the Lord, our workplaces become mission fields, our homes become places of ministry, and our ordinary routines become opportunities to glorify Him. God delights in using faithful servants who are willing to say, “Here am I; send me.”

Real-Life Story

In the 1960s, a young English woman named Jackie Pullinger sensed God calling her to serve overseas. She had no detailed plan, little financial support, and no idea where the journey would lead. Trusting God’s direction, she boarded a ship to Hong Kong. Eventually, she found herself in the infamous Kowloon Walled City—a place known for rampant drug addiction, crime, gangs, prostitution, and hopelessness.

Many believed the area was beyond redemption. Yet Jackie saw what Jesus saw—people created in the image of God who desperately needed His love. Instead of avoiding the brokenness around her, she entered it with compassion. She lived among the people, shared the Gospel, prayed with addicts, cared for children, and relied completely on the power of the Holy Spirit.

Over the years, thousands experienced freedom from addiction, reconciliation with their families, and new life in Christ. What seemed like an impossible assignment became a testimony of God’s transforming grace because one woman simply obeyed His call.

Jackie’s story reminds us of Jesus Himself. The greatest “new assignment” in history was when the Son of God left the glory of heaven and entered our broken world. Jesus willingly came to seek and save those who were lost (Luke 19:10). He touched lepers, welcomed sinners, healed the brokenhearted, and ultimately gave His life on the cross so that we could receive eternal life. His mission was not easy, but He faithfully completed every part of the Father’s will, declaring, “It is finished” (John 19:30).

As followers of Christ, we are called to continue His mission wherever He places us. Whether God assigns us to a classroom, an office, a hospital, a neighborhood, a mission field, or our own family, every assignment is an opportunity to reflect Jesus. We may not all be called to another country, but we are all called to faithfully serve Christ where He has planted us. The same Lord who called Jackie Pullinger—and who sent His own Son into the world—will also strengthen us for every task He entrusts to us.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for trusting me with the responsibilities and opportunities You have placed before me. Help me to receive every new assignment with faith instead of fear and with humility instead of pride. Fill me with the wisdom, strength, and perseverance I need to serve You faithfully.

Teach me to work wholeheartedly, not for the praise of people, but for Your glory alone. Let my words, actions, and attitude reflect the love of Jesus to everyone I meet. Wherever You send me, may I be a faithful witness of Your grace, pointing others to Christ through both my life and my testimony.

May I always remember that no task is too small when it is done for You, and no calling is too great when You are with me.

In the precious name of Jesus Christ, I pray.

Amen.

Action Step

Begin each morning this week by praying:

“Lord, this day belongs to You. Help me to serve You wholeheartedly in every responsibility You have given me. Let my work reflect the character of Christ, and use me to be a blessing to someone today. Amen.”

Then, at the end of each day, take a few moments to thank God for the opportunities He gave you to serve Him and ask Him to prepare you faithfully for whatever assignment He has planned next.
