Scripture
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” — Proverbs 22:6 (KJV)
Reflection
Parenting is both a sacred calling and a daily surrender to the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is not merely about raising children to succeed in life, but about leading them to know Christ, follow Him, and reflect His love.
Jesus Himself welcomed children, blessed them, and taught that the kingdom of God belongs to such as these (Mark 10:14–16). His life shows us that love, patience, truth, and compassion are the foundation of godly influence.
As parents and caregivers, we are not called to perfection—but to dependence on Christ. In our weaknesses, His strength is made perfect. When we fall short, His grace restores. When we are unsure, His Spirit guides. The seeds we plant in Christ—through prayer, Scripture, and example—can shape a child’s eternity, not just their future.
Real Life Story
The story of Wilma Rudolph beautifully reflects what Christ-like parenting can look like in action.
Wilma was born prematurely and grew up facing severe health challenges, including polio, which left her unable to walk properly. Doctors believed she would never walk again.
Yet her mother, Blanche Rudolph, responded not with despair, but with faith, perseverance, and Christ-like love. She sacrificially cared for Wilma, traveling long distances for treatment and faithfully tending to her daughter’s needs every single day.
Blanche not only worked on Wilma’s physical healing but nurtured her spirit—speaking hope, encouraging faith, and reminding her that with God, nothing is impossible. This reflects the heart of Christ, who sees beyond present suffering and calls forth purpose and restoration.
Through years of persistence, Wilma eventually walked—and then ran. She went on to win three gold medals at the 1960 Summer Olympics, becoming one of the fastest women in the world.
But beyond the medals, this story points us to something deeper: a mother reflecting the love of Jesus—patient, sacrificial, and full of grace. Just as Christ walks with us in our weakness and lifts us up, Blanche walked alongside her child until strength and victory came.
This reminds us that Christ-centered parenting is not about control, but about walking with our children in grace—pointing them always to Jesus, the true source of strength and destiny.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me with perfect grace. As I care for those You’ve entrusted to me, help me to reflect Your heart—patient, compassionate, and full of truth. Teach me to lead my children toward You in all things. Strengthen me when I am weak, and guide me by Your Spirit. Let my home be a place where Your presence is known and Your love is lived out. Amen.
Action Step
This week, intentionally point a child to Jesus Christ—whether through a short prayer, sharing a Bible verse, or speaking words of faith and encouragement.
If you are a parent, take a moment to bless your child in the name of Jesus—reminding them that they are loved by Him and created for His purpose.
