Scripture:
“He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” — Psalm 23:3 (KJV)
Reflection:
God’s restoration is never surface-level. When David says, “He restoreth my soul,” he is speaking of deep inner healing—where brokenness, grief, fear, and confusion are touched by the hand of God. This restoration is the work of the Triune God: the Father who lovingly guides us back to wholeness, Jesus Christ the Good Shepherd who laid down His life so our souls could be healed, and the Holy Spirit who comforts, strengthens, and renews us daily. Healing in God’s kingdom is not only about what is seen in the body, but what is unseen in the heart. He brings peace into trauma, hope into despair, and light into the darkest valleys.
Real Life Story:
Joni Eareckson Tada was only 17 years old when a diving accident left her paralyzed from the shoulders down. The sudden transition from an active teenager to quadriplegia could have easily led her into bitterness and despair. In the early years, she wrestled deeply with questions like, “Why did this happen to me?” and “Where is God in my suffering?” But through prayer, Scripture, and the ministry of the Holy Spirit, something began to change within her heart. She later testified that while her body remained limited, her soul began to experience profound healing. She discovered that Jesus was not distant from her suffering but present within it. Christ, who suffered on the cross, understood her pain intimately, and the Holy Spirit became her daily Comforter, giving strength not just to endure but to live with purpose. Over time, her life became a testimony that God can bring meaning out of suffering. She founded ministries for people with disabilities, became a global advocate, and shared the hope of Christ with millions, showing that while God may not always change circumstances immediately, He always restores the soul that trusts Him.
Jesus declared Himself to be the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for the sheep (John 10). He does not abandon us in brokenness—He enters it. On the cross, He bore not only sin but sorrow so that healing could flow into every wounded soul. After His resurrection, Jesus sent the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, to dwell within believers. The Spirit continues the work of restoration, speaking peace into anxiety, hope into grief, and strength into weakness. Healing waters flow where the Spirit is welcomed.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for being my Shepherd who restores my soul. Holy Spirit, comfort me in my broken places and bring healing where I cannot heal myself. Help me trust Your process even when I do not understand it. Let Your peace fill every wounded part of my life. Amen.
